Dana Melici graduated with her B.A. in Psychology at Ramapo College in 2004, and obtained her MSW at NYU in 2009. She is a licensed social worker with over 10 years experience across various therapeutic settings, both community and hospital-based. Although the majority of her work has been dedicated to adults with developmental disabilities along with their support systems including family members, caregivers and community agencies, she has experience working with adults and children both individually and in groups. She is also a licensed mental health screener in Union County and has held multiple positions in various clinical settings including DBT-informed Intensive Outpatient and traditional outpatient where she provided traditional individual and group therapy services.
Dana uses a multimodal approach including behavioral, cognitive, dialectical and client centered psychotherapy. Her areas of specialization include but are not limited to the treatment of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, borderline personality disorder, life transitions, anger management, and serious and persistent mental illness (Bipolar, Schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective Disorders). She is also skilled in crisis intervention, behavioral modification for individuals with developmental disabilities, social skills training, and relationship issues, including challenges of the LGBTQ population.
Dana believes in creating a therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy and validation while supporting each person in reaching their personal and individualized goals. By forming a partnership with her clients, Dana helps them determine the changes they want to make in their lives, identify problematic coping patterns and behaviors that interfere with healthy and productive living and works to empower clients to make choices that help them regain control over their lives.
